AKA Office Complex
The AKA Office Complex includes four condominiums ideally located in Downtown Las Cruces. The design goal of the project was to create a new commercial aesthetic within downtown. This area of Las Cruces is stylistically jumbled, so the expression of this new facility is unique and not overly guided by the urban context. This creates opportunity for good visibility and an inviting appearance. The building is expressive in terms of its materials, which include split-faced concrete masonry units, metal roofing, exposed structural steel, glass storefronts, and an interesting, but not overpowering, mix of stucco colors. The building utilizes overhangs and appropriately placed shading elements to create an energy efficient facility. Studio D Architects tailored one of the units to its need for a new office. Our office utilizes an open central area of workstations around which the remaining private offices, conference room, and exterior courtyard are organized. The openness of the office is reinforced with strategically placed windows to allow for daylight to reach all regularly occupied spaces. Finally a loft space within the open office areas provides additional work stations and storage areas. The interior spaces accommodate a collaborative environment that is essential to our practice.
