Oñate High School

Oñate High School in Las Cruces was designed as an advanced educational facility to house 2000 students.  The novel design approach incorporated input from the public, students, and faculty.  The facility includes the central circulation Mall (Student Concept) which is lighted by natural skylights, various labs, a state-of-the-art performing arts facility and athletic facilities.  The facility provides a total educational environment, including laboratories for Computer, Science, and Language Instruction, Fine and Applied Arts Programs, and Special Education for the multiply-impaired.  Some of the special features provided are a hemispherical astronomy projection dome, three gymnasiums within one space with the center court recessed for competition, media retrieval system to provide instructional videos to all classrooms, and complete Energy Management and Controls System operated by computer from the main Physical Plant of the district.
